SysKit Monitor – server inventory monitoring software

Continuous inventory control is an essential part of any well-organized company. That is where SysKit steps up your game. SysKit Monitor allows you to monitor server inventory, bring it under control and keep it well organized. Using only one console, you can view all your server inventory components, such as CPU, RAM, available disk space, installed programs, system updates, certificates, and local administrators. Inventory Snapshots’ Compare feature enables you to compare different snapshots and monitor server inventory changes. A snapshot is a point in time when SysKit Monitor took an image of the server, so you can compare a server snapshot that is 30 days old with the current live snapshot of the server.

Using SysKit Monitor to monitor server inventory offers a number of benefits, such as saving time and money. Because everything is available under one central console, there is no need to log on to the remote servers, create manual files, or perform similar manual tasks.

Let’s discuss 5 ways you can manage your server inventory with SysKit Monitor:

1. Monitor server inventory changes

With its real-time inventory-monitoring feature, SysKit Monitor automatically updates your inventory as hardware and software are installed or removed from your server environment. With SysKit Monitor, you can take inventory snapshots from one point in time and compare it with the current live snapshot. You can also be selective and choose only a part of your inventory to track. For example, if you don’t want to track certificates or your software inventory, you don’t have to.

2. Patch management

Compare installed and available Windows updates on your servers for more efficient patch management. See which updates are missing from certain servers and install them to ensure that all servers are on the same patch level. Make sure all your software is up to date to keep the system running smoothly.

To compare installed software, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Inventory.
  2. Go to the Snapshots tab and click Take Snapshot (it may take some time).
  3. Run the Compare Wizard.
  4. Choose your Compare Type (and Subtype if necessary).
  5. Select snapshots you wish to compare.
  6. Compare Result will open in a new window.

3. Automate your auditing process

The easiest and most efficient way to audit your server inventory is to automate your inventory auditing process. Automating the auditing process can save time and money while allowing you to focus on other areas. SysKit Monitor allows you to schedule inventory snapshots and send email notifications if differences compared to the previous snapshot are detected.

4. Critical security control

Keep track of inventory changes in critical systems. SysKit Monitor helps you monitor server inventory by tracking which users are local admins on which servers. If somebody, whether by accident or on purpose, adds users to the local admins, you automatically receive an alert when the next snapshot is taken.

5. Compare different system environments

Detect differences in hardware and software if system environments deviate from required specifications. With the Computers Compare feature, you can keep track of and compare the QA/UAT and production environment. Easily define mappings between servers from different system environments and compare them to find differences.

To do this in SysKit Monitor, do the following:

  1. Navigate to Inventory.
  2. Go to the Snapshots tab and click Take Snapshot (it may take some time).
  3. Run the Compare Wizard.
  4. Choose Computers under Compare Type
  5. Under Subtype, select Computers within selected views and then choose the preferred Source View and Target View.
  6. Select snapshots you wish to compare.
  7. Define computer mappings.
  8. Compare Result will open in a new window.
