What is Yammer?
Yammer was an enterprise social networking service for private communication within organizations.

Originally developed by Yammer, Inc. and acquired by Microsoft in 2012, it was designed to support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and employee engagement. Inspired by platforms like Facebook and Twitter, Yammer was tailored specifically for internal business use.
In February 2023, Microsoft fully integrated Yammer into Viva Engage.
As part of Viva Engage, the core functionality of Yammer - including communities, conversations, and leadership communications - continues, but with deeper integration into the Microsoft Viva employee experience platform. Viva Engage brings together Yammer communities, storylines (a LinkedIn-like personal feed), and leadership communications tools into a single platform.
While the Yammer branding has been retired in most Microsoft communications, many organizations still use the term to refer to Viva Engage's community features.
