This article explains how to configure SysKit Trace.

Configure SysKit Trace

Once the installation is completed, by default, SysKit Trace Configuration Wizard starts automatically. Alternatively, you can start it manually at any time by searching for it from the windows start menu.

Prerequisites

In the Configuration Wizard, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Local service account
  • Office 365 Global admin account

Configuration Steps

Office 365 Connection

Click the Connect button to connect SysKit Trace to your Office 365 tenant. You need to provide the Office 365 global admin account. This account will be used to configure the tenant connection.

Once the login process has finished you will need to provide some additional info for the connection to work.

App Password

Needed for some workloads. More information on why this is required and how to setup an app password when using Multi-Factor authentication can be found here.

Data Collection Schedule

SysKit Trace comes with a windows service that can periodically create snapshots for you without the need for SysKit Trace to be running. The schedule can be setup to be daily, weekly or monthly at a specific day and time.

Notification Settings

Notification settings are closely related to automatic snapshots.
Once the snapshot is created by the service, an email will be sent to the configured recipients.

  • Send tenant documentation file - sends the generated documentation file based on the latest created snapshot.

  • Send file with tenant differences when detected - sends the differences from the last snapshot that is marked as good, or, if one does not exist, the previous snapshot.

    You can mark a snapshot as good on the snapshots screen.

    If no differences are detected this document will not be sent.

  • Send only if differences detected - the documentation file will be sent only when there are some differences between the latest snapshot and the last snapshot that is marked as good, or, if one does not exist, the previous snapshot.

    You can mark the snapshot as good on the snapshots screen.

  • Format - the format in which the documentation file will be generated.

  • Send from email - email of the user that will be the sender for the notification.

  • Email addresses to notify - list the recipient email addresses separated by semicolon.

Service Settings

Provide local windows service account that will be used for running the automatic actions performed by SysKit Trace such as scheduled data collection.

Supported service account formats:

  • machine_name\username
  • domain_name\username

After you've entered the credentials click the Validate Account button. If the account has all proper privileges, a Success window appears with the message:

This account can be used to run SysKit Trace!

Click OK to close the Success window, and Next > to continue to the next step.

Finish

The last step shows the status of all operations that are done before you can access SysKit Trace. If the configuration was successful, all steps are marked with green checkmarks.

Click the Finish button to open SysKit Trace.
