SysKit Survey Results: SharePoint Usage & Stats
This major European modern workplace event brings together people from all over the world to learn about the trends in Microsoft 365, Azure, and SharePoint. We thought this seemed like a great opportunity to learn more about SharePoint trends and everyday problems of SharePoint users, so we ran a short survey among visitors.
What’s their role?
We asked participants to share their role, with an option to select multiple answers. Among 333 people who filled out the survey, consultants took first place with 45%. Right after them, in second place, were SharePoint architects/developers, with 43%. IT professionals/business users, with a bit over 20%, took the third position.
What are their plans regarding SharePoint Online?
The results show a strong increase in adoption of SharePoint Online among the SharePoint community. Over 40% of our respondents have already migrated to the Cloud, while 30% of them are in the middle of the migration process or planning to migrate within one or two years. 17% are working in hybrid environments. The top three most used hybrid areas are related to Search and Site features, OneDrive for Business, and Exchange.
What SharePoint version are they using?
Participants could select multiple answers. SharePoint Online is by far the most utilized option – almost 80% of participants are using it. However, SharePoint Server holds a significant position, with the 2013 edition still leading in usage with over 50%. 47% of the respondents have migrated to the latest SharePoint 2016, while other participants are still using older 2010 and 2007 editions.
What are the most challenging parts of administration?
Participants could select multiple answers between twelve offered choices. 28% of respondents found Migration the most challenging, while Permissions management gave headaches to almost 26% of them. In third place, with 25%, was Custom solution deployment and management, following by Workflows, cited by almost 24% of participants.
What does their GDPR Compliance strategy include?
GDPR compliance is a very important part of SharePoint administration for all survey participants. 60% of them stated that they want to be able to classify information, and more than 50% said that PII (Personally identifiable information) management is a very important part of their compliance strategy.
Do they need 3rd party products to support their environments?
