SPDocKit v8 Licensing Changes

It has been quite a ride since 2009 when SysKit (then Acceleratio) first started out. Imagine … two young fellas, wearing worn-out sweatpants and working out of their bedrooms, wanted to make some monitoring tools. No, no, you’re not reading the opening credits of Silicon Valley.

Years rolled by, the company grew, and here we are today as one of the best vendors in the SharePoint market. Oh, and the two guys don’t wear sweatpants anymore.

However, for many years, we battled with our licensing. Of course, we always wanted to be fair and provide great value for the money to our customers. The years went by; our products grew in size and complexity while the pricing remained pretty much the same. Customers always praised the quality of our products and services, but our licensing did not mirror that fact. We were growing our customer base but were not growing our business.

After thinking long and hard, we decided it was time to take the next step. The plan was to differentiate and attack the midmarket segment. As you can imagine, we puzzled over the best solution, as we still wanted to remain the preferred “value for the money” vendor in the SharePoint market. Luckily, we were not alone in this process. Our decisions were based on extensive customer research led by an independent market research firm. The work lasted over six months, so we hope you will appreciate our effort in delivering the best outcome for you.

The purpose of this post is to introduce the licensing changes, explain the upgrade paths for existing users, and clarify any potential points of confusion, to help you transition to the new licensing as smoothly as possible.

Licensing Changes

To keep up with the latest industry trends and to assure the continuous development of new product functionalities, as of the version 8 release, the SPDocKit licensing has changed from perpetual to a subscription model.

Edition Changes

SPDocKit sheds existing editions and moving forward offers simplified options—SPDocKit Farm Subscription and SPDocKit Consultant Subscription.

  • Farm Subscription remains as a per-farm license module (with special offers for nonproduction licenses).
  • Consultant Subscriptions are licensed per consultant. We introduced some major improvements in the functionalities of this license. You will find more on these changes below.
  • The Site license will cease to exist.
  • The SPDocKit Online license was depreciated in August, with all customers being upgraded to the newer version of the SysKit Security Manager tool.
  • The SPDocKit Workstation commercial license will cease to exist as well, but now every Farm Subscription will come with an extra Workstation Subscription.

Pricing Changes

To go along with the licensing and edition changes, we introduced some pricing changes as well. The new pricing is available at this link. We know it won’t fit everybody, but we hope that our loyal customers will recognize our value even with these changes. Of course, we also prepared some special upgrade and bundle options to accommodate a wider audience.

New Product Bundles

With the new products we developed this year (SysKit Insights and SysKit Security Manager) and the new licensing changes we are announcing now, we wanted to offer a good deal to all our customers who want to mix and match. This is how the idea of bundles was born. With our standard product offering, we have introduced three bundle solutions, giving you optimal functionality and favorable pricing. The bundle descriptions follow:

Consultant Bundle

This is a mix of the SPDocKit Consultant Subscription and SysKit Security Manager Subscription. This bundle provides both tools, which means you’ll be able to work with your clients whether they are online or on-prem. The bundle is licensed per consultant and there is no restriction on the number of users, tenants, or farms that you can use it for. With a Consultant Bundle Subscription, you annually save 22% compared to standard pricing.


Dear reader, this is the functionality of our former product, SysKit Security Manager. Check out our new cloud-based Microsoft 365 governance solution, SysKit Point, to monitor user activity, manage permissions, make reports, and govern your users and resources.

Farm Bundle

This bundle is great for on-prem administrators. It is licensed per farm, so with each license purchased you get one SPDocKit Farm Subscription and one SysKit Insights Subscription for up to 10 servers. This bundle makes for a complete tool for your farm management and monitoring. With a Farm Bundle Subscription, you annually save 36% compared to standard pricing.


The Ultimate Bundle

The Ultimate Bundle Subscription is combination of all three of our products. It is also licensed per farm, and each license combines one SPDocKit Farm Subscription, one nonproduction SPDocKit Farm Subscription, one Insights Subscription for up to 15 servers, and one SysKit Security Manager Subscription. With an Ultimate Bundle Subscription, you annually save 58% compared to standard pricing.


Product Changes

We made sure to introduce some exciting product changes as well. Read more about the new features in our official release note. We assure you that you won’t be disappointed and promise that you will have enough time to explore the new features before deciding whether you’d like to continue using the tool in the future. The v8 release is our biggest release so far, and we are planning to keep it up, so stay tuned for new versions of SPDocKit!

Okay, but what does all this mean for me, you ask? Good question. Let me explain that as well.

Renewal Options

For automatic renewal options, please note that on your first billing renewal date, on or after October 17, 2018, SysKit will automatically convert your current licenses to the subscription model, as well as upgrade all active subscriptions to the new pricing. You can cancel your subscription at any time; just make sure to contact us. Our Customer Success Team is ready to help your transition go as smooth as possible, and answer any potential questions about your upgrade path or renewal options.

Upgrade Paths

All existing customers with a valid Support and Upgrade Protection option (Software Assurance) will get a free upgrade to version 8. New keys will be available within your profile in our Customers Portal, as well as the download of the new version. Description of the upgrade paths by current editions are as follows:

  • Site & Site Plus Licenses—upgraded to the Site Subscription; we advise you to contact your account manager for more details or contact us directly at sales@syskit.com.
  • Farm License—upgraded to the new Farm Subscription; each production farm is given an extra Workstation Subscription.
  • Farm Plus License—upgraded to the new Farm Subscription; each production farm is given an extra Workstation Subscription, and Farm Plus licenses are awarded an extra 20 Insights licenses as well.
  • Consultant Subscription—upgraded to the new v8 Consultant Subscription.
  • Consultant Plus Subscription—upgraded to the new v8 Consultant Bundle (Consultant Subscription & SysKit Security Manager Annual Subscription).
  • SPDocKit Online License—upgraded to SysKit Security Manager Subscription.


Consultant License Changes

The new Consultant Subscription brings new and improved architecture, which simplifies your day-to-day operations. The new setup leaves zero footprint on your client’s environment, and there is no more need to install anything within your client’s farm.
